Sleeping Mats Know How

Since the introduction of the industrychanging DownMat in 2001, EXPED sleeping mats have been the most innovative on the market. EXPED’s sleeping mats are known for their great features, high quality construction and comfort.

R-Value

We think one of the most important factors in a comfortable and warm night’s sleep for backpacking mats is R-Value: the amount of insulation a mat provides from the ground. Just as our sleeping bags are differentiated by their temperature rating according to the ISO 23537 standard, our sleeping mats are differentiated by their own standard, ASTM F3340, which was launched in 2020.

Quality Control

100% QUALITY CONTROL

We go the extra mile to make sure every mat that leaves the factory is air tight.

Stress tests

Each mat model endures our 15,000 cycle 80 kg roller test, and 200 cycle 60 kg dropper test, to ensure our mats are up to your next expedition.

The EXPED Mat Universe

Ultra Duo

Backpacking Mats

The EXPED trekking mat range is divided into three clear groups, which define usage: Ultra, Dura and Versa. The name of each mat also includes a warmth rating expressed by the mat's R-Value – the higher the R-Value number, the warmer the mat.

MegaMat Auto

Self Inflating Mats

The "self-inflating mats" (SIM) are the ideal compromise between air-filled trekking mats and the thick 3D basecamp mats. They offer a good balance between comfort, warmth and price.
